Roto roof system technology
Roto roof system technology: part of the solution / Sophisticated use of recycled PVC / With high-quality profiles for sustainable construction / Customised: efficient processes for the environment and efficiency / Saving time, distances and costs / Doing more for a better future
Stuttgart / Bad Mergentheim – “It’s about making the best of the given framework conditions,” Christoph Hugenberg, CEO of Roto Frank Dachsystem-Technologie GmbH (Roto DST), explained the current situation of the division during the 19th International Roto Trade Press Day in Stuttgart. With its products and services, the manufacturer of window solutions for all aspects of the roof is part of the solution to many of today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.
Part of the solution
Of course, there is an industrial and building materials crisis, which is also affecting Roto DST and its customers. However, the division is well positioned and is moving forward with determination: “We have done a good job so far and will continue to do so. Roto is always a reliable partner for specialist dealers and tradesmen.” The manufacturer would already have an answer to many questions of the future today. The use of its window solutions can improve the energy efficiency of buildings, save labour, time and costs and also reduce CO2 emissions. The well thought-out use of recycled materials and the option of separating Roto roof windows by type at the end of their life cycle also contribute to making the world a little better every day.
100% PVC, 88% less CO2
One example of this is the Roto PVC windows, which have followed the principles of sustainability for almost 30 years. Since then, the PVC hollow chamber profile has replaced the standard wooden core used by other manufacturers. The hollow chamber profile makes windows more robust against external influences and therefore more durable. This in turn improves insulation values and ultimately the energy efficiency. Because the frame is also fibre-reinforced and constructed with steel reinforcement, stability, energy efficiency and service life are further increased. Incidentally, the material for the PVC hollow chamber profile also comes from recycled Roto PVC windows. Recycling PVC can save up to 88 percent of greenhouse gas emissions compared to the production of new plastic parts. Another advantage is that the windows can be separated by type, which means they can be recycled at the end of their life cycle.
Sustainable and based on partnership
Sustainability is not an end in itself at Roto, but has always been taken into account in all projects. In this way, individual solutions are also developed in dialogue with customers that take all aspects of sustainability – ecological, economic and social – into account. A concept has just been developed for Oikos Group GmbH, provider of the Bien-Zenker, Hanse Haus and Living Haus brands, which can make all processes relating to roof windows faster, cheaper and more environmentally friendly. Thanks to specially developed, stackable reusable transport corners and transport boxes, Roto DST is able to transport the roof windows to the Oikos factories ready for installation and unpacked. There, they could be lowered by the installers, inserted into the roof elements and installed. Once the roof element has been transported to the construction site, the roof windows only need to be slid out of the recess, aligned with mounting blocks and secured in the frame with a few screws.
This approach reduces packaging waste, transport routes, operation steps and time – test runs have shown that the installation time per roof window in the factory alone is reduced by 30 minutes. Because Roto has also thought about the interior panelling, a further 90 minutes are saved per window, work is transferred from the construction site to the factory and quality is increased as a result. “In addition, installers are less stressed because they no longer have to carry individual windows onto the roof and install them on the construction site, but the physically heavy work is already done with machine support,” explained Christoph Hugenberg.
Focus on customer needs
In order to continue to fulfil its own and its customers’ demands for reliability and sustainability, the window manufacturer is consistently developing in line with the “German-made” canon of values and will continue to invest in high-quality product innovations such as the “Designo Heat”, the first roof window with a heating function, in new service offerings and in increasing productivity – both in-house and at the customer’s premises. One pillar of this is digitalisation, which also includes initiatives relating to artificial intelligence. In addition, more and more product solutions are being developed, manufactured and commissioned at just one location in order to save time, transport distances and costs in terms of sustainability. Above all, it is essential to act end-to-end: in future, it will be even more important to take the customer’s perspective, understand their needs and incorporate expertise from all of the company’s specialist areas in order to optimise service provision.
